Conformity Inspections
Last Updated: 04/10/2008

When used as a Conformity Inspection document the 8130 certifies that an aircraft part was manufactured exactly in accordance with FAA Approved Engineering Data. This type of 8130 is often used when a manufacturer is seeking to qualify a new product. The manufacturer would have first provided engineering drawing for that product to the FAA. The FAA would have reviewed and approved the design of the new product. The manufacturer would then produce a “First Article” unit to be used for the purpose of Qualification Testing. However prior to beginning testing, an FAA Engineer will inspect the First Article unit in order to ensure that it was indeed built exactly in accordance with the approved engineering design. The results of that inspection will be documented on a Conformity Inspection FAA Form 8130. This type of 8130 must be signed by an FAA-DAR (Designated Airworthiness Representative) in block 15.
